Job Summary

We are seeking a Finance Process Documentation Consultant to document and analyze complex financial data and operational processes across multiple business functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map and document complex end-to-end finance and business processes across multiple functional teams.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand current workflows, ownership, dependencies, controls, and decision-making processes.
  • Trace data from source systems through downstream processes and outputs, documenting key inputs, transformations, business rules, and handoffs.
  • Review existing SQL scripts, spreadsheets, lookups, matching logic, and manual data processes to understand how information is processed and utilized.
  • Identify undocumented procedures, process dependencies, knowledge gaps, and operational risks.
  • Create detailed written documentation and process maps that clearly communicate current-state workflows.
  • Develop user-friendly process narratives, workflows, and visual process diagrams using tools such as Lucidchart, Visio, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Office.
  • Surface process inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver documentation that can be leveraged by future business, technical, or automation teams to support transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with finance, operations, and business stakeholders to establish a comprehensive current-state view of critical business processes.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, business operations, or enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting complex finance business processes and translating stakeholder knowledge into clear written and visual deliverables.
  • Ability to read and understand SQL queries and data transformations to identify source data, logic, and outputs.
  • Experience creating or modifying SQL is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency working with spreadsheets, data analysis, lookups, and data transformation logic.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to trace data across multiple systems and processes.
  • Experience developing process maps, workflow diagrams, standard operating procedures, or current-state assessments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize large volumes of information into organized, actionable documentation.
  • Consulting mindset with the ability to work independently in an evolving environment.
  • Prior experience supporting process improvement, transformation, governance, or automation initiatives is highly desirable.
