Finance Director
About the role
Manitowoc County seeks a Finance Director with strong financial management, leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills who can effectively oversee the County’s financial operations and provide trusted guidance to the County Executive, County Board, committees, and departments. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing, financial reporting, and public finance, along with a collaborative and service‑oriented approach. The successful candidate will be organized, detail‑oriented, and responsive, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and work effectively across the organization. This individual will demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment while promoting financial accountability, transparency, compliance, and responsible stewardship of County resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting required.
- Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting practices, auditing standards, financial reporting, and public finance.
- Experience preparing financial statements, audits, tax levy calculations, and regulatory reports.
- Strong analytical, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials, department heads, auditors, granting agencies, and external stakeholders.

Pay
Expected Hiring Range: $100,000–$125,000
