Finance Director
Full-time role based in New York City, NY, offering a salary range of $90,000 to $100,000.
About the role
A diversified media, entertainment, and retail conglomerate is seeking a Finance Director to lead and oversee finance and accounting operations across multiple business units in North America. This role will be responsible for financial reporting, accounting oversight, budgeting, strategic planning, and internal control management. The Finance Director will work closely with executive leadership and global headquarters to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and alignment with corporate financial objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all finance and accounting operations across multiple business entities within the organization.
- Prepare and review standalone and consolidated financial reporting packages, including variance analysis and management narratives.
- Manage full accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, expense reporting, cost accounting, accruals, settlements, inventory reconciliation, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Prepare consolidated financial reports and packages for executive leadership, external auditors, and global headquarters.
- Ensure financial statements and transactions are prepared in compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and mid-term financial plans while providing financial insights to support business strategy.
- Oversee retail finance operations including inventory valuation, cost of goods sold analysis, margin analysis, vendor accounting, logistics accounting, and sales reporting across retail and e-commerce channels.
- Design and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.
- Manage tax compliance including quarterly and annual filings and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Review general ledger activities, intercompany transactions, and reconciliation processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiencies across finance and accounting processes.
- Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives and business planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred.
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- 8+ years of accounting and finance experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and financial analysis.
- Experience working in media, publishing, entertainment, consumer products, or retail industries is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems (such as Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar platforms).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multinational corporate environment.
- Japanese language proficiency preferred.
