About the role
The Town of Snowmass Village is looking for a Finance Director to direct and manage all aspects of the Finance Department. This role provides overall direction and leadership in financial operations, accounting, budgeting, audit preparation, investments, grants, debt management, financial forecasting, financial analyses, sales and lodging tax administration, payroll and related benefits, and financial election questions. The Finance Director supervises all department employees and advises the Town Manager and elected officials on financial matters.
Responsibilities
- Supervisory and management responsibilities for all financial activities of the organization, including accounting, payroll, related benefits, and budgeting.
- Advises and consults with the Town Manager and department heads on economic objectives, fiscal policies, and problems.
- Develops and manages strategies to assure effective financial planning and analysis; evaluates the Town’s needs and recommends fiscal resource requirements.
- Interprets laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to financial planning, analysis, and procedures.
- Develops and manages finance and budget policies and procedures to monitor the Town’s financial performance; clarifies and reconciles complex financial issues.
- Provides overall direction for financial operations and ensures accurate and timely accounting for each Town fund.
- Formulates and adjusts financial goals, objectives, programs, and priorities.
- Prepares, conducts, and develops the annual Town budget process; coordinates with department heads for budget input and scheduling.
- Reviews and monitors individual departments’ budget submissions for justification of changes; presents the budget to elected officials and the Financial Advisory Board.
- Oversees the planning, directing, reviewing, and coordination of the annual audit work plans for preparation of the annual financial report.
- Monitors analysis of budget and financial changes, revenue cycles, and financial planning activities.
- Manages the Town’s debt and lease financing; reviews and makes recommendations on bond underwriters, proposals, and debt management; handles bond documents through closing.
- Responsible for financial election questions.
- Manages the Capital Improvement Program, directing funding for projects through restricted funding sources and maintaining fund balances.
- Plans, coordinates, and directs all payroll and related benefit activities; performs supervisory and professional work in payroll administration.
- Manages the public official liability, property, and casualty insurance program; reviews and submits insurance claims; handles insurance coverage and renewal.
- Supervises the interpretation and collection of the Town’s local sales tax and lodging tax, including auditing, code interpretation, and delinquent collections.
- Supervisory responsibilities including hiring, disciplining, training, coaching, evaluating performance, and providing day-to-day oversight to the Assistant Finance Director, Finance Manager, and Financial Sales & Tax Analyst.
Requirements
- Any combination of experience and training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business or accounting with coursework in personnel or business administration.
- Six years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and risk management.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
- Five years of public sector experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strategic and detail-oriented.
- Thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.

Pay
Position range: $65.97–$95.66 USD per hour. Hiring range: $65.97–$88.23 USD per hour.
