Finance Controller

Finance Controller role overseeing the complete finance and accounting function at a fast-growing advanced-manufacturing company. Hands-on position balancing daily operations with strategic financial planning and scalable-process development.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Operations
    • Manage all day-to-day accounting: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, journal entries, fixed assets, cash management, month-end/year-end close.
    • Maintain accurate U.S.-GAAP financial records; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, and financial partners.
  • Cash Management, Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Maintain weekly and long-term cash-flow forecasts; monitor liquidity, receivables, payables, and obligations.
    • Lead annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and variance analysis.
    • Develop financial models supporting growth, hiring, manufacturing, R&D, and capital needs.
    • Provide management with clear financial KPIs and actionable recommendations.
  • Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
    • Manage manufacturing cost accounting, inventory, WIP, and COGS.
    • Monitor material, labor, and overhead costs; maintain accurate product costing.
    • Analyze product and project profitability; partner with Production, Engineering, and Procurement to improve margins.
    • Support product pricing and margin analysis.
  • Government Contracts & Grants
    • Manage financial administration of government contracts, grants, and federally funded R&D programs.
    • Maintain compliant labor charging, timekeeping, and cost allocations.
    • Monitor allowable/unallowable costs; manage indirect cost allocations and rate development.
    • Prepare government invoices, reimbursement requests, budgets, and financial reports.
    • Maintain audit-ready documentation; support government audits and financial reviews.
    • Support proposal pricing and financial submissions.
  • Payroll, Tax & Compliance
    • Oversee payroll processing and payroll accounting.
    • Coordinate federal, state, and local tax compliance; manage sales and payroll tax requirements.
    • Work with external tax professionals on corporate tax filings.
  • Internal Controls & Audit
    • Establish and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and approval processes.
    • Safeguard company assets and improve financial accountability.
    • Prepare for and support annual financial-statement audits.
    • Continuously strengthen controls as the company grows.
  • Strategic & Corporate Finance Support
    • Provide financial analysis to executive leadership for strategic planning, pricing, major purchases, and investment decisions.
    • Prepare financial information for shareholders, investors, lenders, and other stakeholders.
    • Support financial due diligence for investments, financing, partnerships, or corporate transactions.
    • Help establish reporting, controls, and processes required for future public-company readiness.
  • Financial Systems
    • Manage and improve accounting and financial systems; support future ERP implementation.
    • Improve integration between accounting, purchasing, inventory, payroll, and manufacturing systems.
    • Automate reporting and reduce manual processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Strong hands-on accounting and financial-reporting experience.
  • Manufacturing cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, engineering, technology, or R&D environments preferred.
  • Government contract or grant accounting experience highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting financial and government audits.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or ERP accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, DCAA requirements, indirect rates, and government cost accounting is highly desirable.
