Finance, Associate Director

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Administration, the Associate Director of Finance will manage graduate student financial support—including the development of annual spending plans for stipends, modeling new initiatives, and reporting—on behalf of the Graduate School and Colleges. This role serves as the primary point of contact and resource for all aspects of student financial support and facilitates budgeting, finance, and accounting for the Graduate School.
Responsibilities
- Student Financial Support
- Partners with the Dean of the Graduate School, the Financial Analyst, and the Associate Deans in the Colleges to develop financial models for graduate student support that achieve the goals of the colleges while maintaining donor restrictions and Provost expectations.
- Facilitates the execution of financial plans and serves as a point of contact for various departments regarding these models.
- Provides financial reporting to partners across the University.
- With the Financial Analyst, serves as a liaison to graduate programs, aiding in student job initiation, establishing students in the University’s finance system, student health care, and other support aspects.
- Develops the annual operating budgets for restricted accounts that support stipends.
- Tracks stipend budgets and related restricted accounts throughout the academic year.
- Reviews and models tuition revenue-sharing data.
- Graduate School Finances
- Manages the day-to-day financial operations of the Graduate School.
- Helps develop and execute long-range financial planning in support of department priorities.
- Leads the annual budget planning process; prepares the annual Budget Working Group presentation.
- Monitors budget-to-actual performance of all Graduate School budgets.
- Designs and maintains financial dashboards and executive summary reports for leadership decision-making.
- Oversees the management of all restricted and unrestricted funds within the Graduate School, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic alignment.
- Other Duties
- Supervises the Financial Analyst.
- Reviews and processes prospective contracts.
- Participates in and supplies analysis for the annual determination of the fringe rate for graduate students.
- Sits on an advisory committee to review contracts for student health insurance.
- Provides new-hire and semi-annual stipend processing training and updates for College department staff; supports the Financial Analyst during peak activity.
- Represents the Graduate School on University-wide committees, project teams, and working groups related to financial projects.
- Documents processes, drives process improvement, benchmarking, and implementation of software programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting required.
- 3-4 years of experience managing complex budgets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial issues in simple but accurate terms.
- Attention to detail and proven ability to research issues, identify remedies, and facilitate implementation of solutions.
- Ability to develop financial reports, dashboards, and provide analysis of financial impacts.
- Strong ethical standards and ability to work with sensitive/confidential information.
- Ability to work with multiple and diverse leaders across the division and University.
- Proficiency with MS Office products, Google suite, and various budgeting and financial tools; ability to learn new systems.
- Understanding of the mission and values of a Catholic University founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience with University budgeting and financial tools (Business Objects, Financial Compass, Tableau, GLez, TravelND, etc.).
Pay
Up to $95,000, commensurate with experience.
