Finance Applications Developer
Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Finance Applications Developer in the Wheeling, WV office. This role provides technical development support for the Business Systems Support Group team while contributing directly to financial application design, development, integration, and support.
About the Role
This role partners with internal stakeholders, IT, vendors, and implementation teams to analyze complex business requirements; design reliable solutions; automate workflows; and support financial data management. Responsibilities include integrating solutions with existing systems, maintaining data integrity and security, troubleshooting production issues, and delivering enhancements as business needs evolve.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of Aderant Expert framework customizations, including Expert forms in Design Studio, SSRS reports, Entity Manager access and custom security, EA Pro dashboards/development work, Expert Billing & Collections formats, and other Aderant Expert customizations as required.
- Maintain working knowledge of Classic Aderant forms to support legacy functionality, troubleshooting, and transition-related needs.
- Lead and coordinate monthly and year-end financial close activities in partnership with other team members. Responsibilities include assessing the current-period environment for potential issues, running validation scripts, balancing ledgers, importing data files, and resolving close-related issues. Year-end responsibilities also include coordinating with the Analyst to set up Orrick holidays and apply business-day allocation factors.
- Maintain documentation for the month-end financial close process and nightly data build and update processes, in coordination with other team members.
- Plan, organize, and lead Aderant version upgrades following Orrick’s migration to Sierra. Responsibilities include reviewing technical documentation, assessing upgrade scope and impact, identifying risks and benefits, evaluating known issues and production pain points, and recommending upgrade timing and approach.
- Partner with IT to troubleshoot and support third-party time entry systems that interface with Aderant or related financial applications.
- Participate in firm projects involving integrations with Aderant and related financial systems. Collaborate with Information Technology, Finance, vendors, and implementation teams to evaluate integration options, identify limitations and risks, and support the secure and efficient transfer of data between systems throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with Orrick’s security, risk management, information technology, and finance internal control policies. Promptly escalate policy deviations, control concerns, or security risks to leadership upon discovery.
- Analyze finance workflows for automation opportunities, recommend replacements for aging technologies, identify process gaps, and create custom reports to support financial reporting and data analysis.
- Work with Aderant to define SOW tasks, such as generic importer jobs, or other financial objects that need to be updated/customized that are part of the current production environment.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills, clear communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the firm, including senior management. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with Aderant Expert Financial Management System and DocuDraft development is required; Aderant design and development experience is preferred.
- Strong SQL Server skills including writing queries.
- Strong troubleshooting skills such as researching production issues, validating data, and supporting open tickets.
- Experience performing quality assurance testing for financial application solutions, integrations, reports, and workflows.
- Ability to lead projects when assigned, coordinate workstreams, and complete independent assignments with limited supervision.
- Strong project management, requirements-gathering, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
- College-level knowledge of finance and accounting, with experience working with large data sets and complex calculations.
- Experience in a professional services firm is preferred.

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is between $80,000 - $105,000. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, determined by firm and individual performance.
