Final Quality Technician

The company’s products keep the world connected at home, school, work, and play. VIAVI Solutions is seeking a Final Quality Inspector at its Rapid City, South Dakota location. The inspector evaluates finished bodies at the End of Line of a production line in a high‑speed environment, determines the disposition of active production parts, escalates concerns when needed, and promotes a culture of quality to minimize defective parts and maintain product throughput.

Responsibilities

• Interpret database results and sort based on pass/fail status.
• Perform analysis of product results with basic Excel functions.
• Perform physical defect inspection of all units.
• Review customer‑facing datasheets for unit performance standards.
• Move product to the correct location and track serial numbers.
• Conduct data‑analysis tasks for calculating metrics and future projections of production test capacity.
• Handle engineering tasks delegated to the FQA area.
• Guide production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, needs repair, or scrap.
• Document and communicate any identified defects.
• Escalate concerns that are not being properly resolved in your immediate work area.
• Comprehend current production quality standards and determine if ongoing production meets those standards.
• Communicate emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory.
• Construct and maintain strong relationships with members of all nearby teams.
• Aide in test responsibilities (loading testers, monitoring testers, performing product testing, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in a production or manufacturing quality assurance environment.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills; process‑oriented with strong analytical abilities.
• Ability to research, problem‑solve, and formulate conclusions and recommendations.
• Proficiency with various computer applications; Microsoft Excel, Python, and database structure/analytics experience is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to log concerns appropriately.
• Experience in a fast‑paced work environment requiring critical analysis is a plus.
• Organized, proactive, manufacturing mindset; effective in a team‑based environment.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree.
