FINAL CALL: UKUDLA PhD scholarship grants 2026

About the Scholarship

African and German doctoral candidates are urged to apply for the African German Centre for Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems and Applied Agricultural and Food Data Science’s (UKUDLA) 2026 PhD scholarship call. This is a final reminder to submit your applications by 6 February 2026.

Funding and Support

UKUDLA is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, with funds from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office; the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space; and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity. The scholarship covers a period of 36 months (with an optional extension of six months) and includes:

• A subsistence allowance
• Travel and flight costs
• Additional research funds (upon application)

Partner Institutions

The UKUDLA Consortium consists of the following partner institutions:

• University of Hohenheim
• University of the Western Cape
• University of Pretoria
• University of Mpumalanga
• Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)

Focus Areas

The primary aim of UKUDLA is to develop the expertise of young scientists in:

• Sustainable and resilient food systems
• Applied data science

Applications that integrate both aspects are particularly encouraged.
