About the role
Safe and efficient operation of production equipment to include:
- Gable-top carton filling and packaging equipment
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) in detail without deviation
- Collect routine product samples and perform routine seal integrity testing to inspect cartons for leaks, tears, and perform dye inspections for quality assurance
- Set up and use the appropriate gable-top cartons in accordance with the production run schedule
- Set up packaging coders and validate product codes in accordance with code specifications
- Identify and effectively communicate any out-of-specification product conditions and follow the established notification protocol
- Perform routine equipment adjustments
- Safe operation of a lift truck
- Accurately and neatly complete production records and documents
- Perform equipment change-overs, CIP/SIP, clean-up, and equipment set-up
- Perform environmental controls
- Perform product reclaim and rework operations in accordance with reclaim guidelines
- Support internal and external audits
- Follow all established occupational health and safety procedures
- Follow all established GMPs and Food Safety requirements
- Cross-train with other departments
- Perform good housekeeping within established guidelines
- Comply with federal, state, and local dairy food regulations
- Adhere to the Saputo Code of Ethics and actively apply the Saputo Company Values
- Work together with co-workers and other department personnel
- Other duties as required by management
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working understanding of food manufacturing acronyms (SQF, QA/QC, CQP, HACCP, SOP, 5S, GMP, etc.)
- Lift truck certification or the ability to obtain certification (Powered Industrial Truck)
- Strong math skills
- Proficient computer skills, software and data entry; SAP a plus
- Strong technical skills; ability to operate and understand equipment controls, touch panels, and mechanical operations
- Successful completion of drug screen and background check
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated work history
- Good attendance
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment including noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, humid), standing/walking/bending/stooping/climbing stairs, maneuvering around manufacturing equipment throughout the shift
- Visual acuity with the ability to see color
- Ability to work with chemicals, wear personal protective equipment, and follow approved chemical handling procedures
- Physical lifting up to 40 lbs frequently throughout the shift
- Shift flexibility
Schedule
This is a hands-on role for a 24/7 manufacturing facility. Equipment operators are assigned to a team on a rotating or 3-shift, 24/7 operation to support manufacturing. This can include rotating AM/PM, days, swing or night shifts and weekends. Work days and shifts may change to cover vacations/absences, plant downtime, or related events such as audits.
12-Hour Rotating Shift Schedule: This position follows a compressed workweek with alternating 3-day and 4-day workweeks, offering extended time off while supporting the 24/7 manufacturing operation.
Shift Premium: Employees assigned to B Shift receive an additional $1.50 per hour night shift premium.
