Figure Skating Instructor - Morgan Park Sports Center
Responsibilities
Provide instruction to youth (ages 3 and up) and adults. Demonstrate proper use of equipment, techniques, and movement methods to help students achieve proficiency in the sport. Explain and enforce safety guidelines, rules, and regulations. Maintain accurate records and assist in coordinating events. Keep management and parents informed of activities, student progress, and any issues as they arise.
Requirements
- Arrive prepared and on time for all classes and sessions.
- Record daily attendance for each class.
- Instruct students in all elements appropriate to their class level, ensuring each student receives sufficient practice to feel prepared for evaluation.
- Evaluate students on testing days and complete all required program forms.
- Input evaluated student levels into the computer registration system.
- Encourage and reinforce appropriate behavior among students.
- Model professional behavior by: Respecting facilities, patrons, and staff. Refraining from negative speech about patrons, instructors, or volunteers. Using professional and appropriate language in all coaching and patron interactions. Maintaining a clean, tidy, and professional appearance.
- Attend at least one continuing education seminar per year in any skating discipline.
- Attend all Figure Skating staff meetings as scheduled by the Skating Coordinator.
- Absent without prior approval and notify the Skating Coordinator and management promptly regarding absences, and arrange for suitable substitutes when necessary.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have passed USFS Freeskate 6, or equivalent.
- Must (can still be a full member of U.S. Figure Skating via their home club).
- Must become SafeSport compliant within 3 months of start date.
Experience / Knowledge
- 3+ years previous coaching experience preferred.
- 5+ years competitive skating experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program.
- Knowledge of generally accepted coaching techniques.
- Skill in organizing large groups of skaters (youth or mixed ages).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other instructors and management.
- Must like working with children.
- Reliable and responsible, with maturity and sound judgment.
- Energy, assertiveness, innovation, creativity, and willingness to try new approaches and techniques.

Pay
Hourly Rate: $18.50
Schedule
This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Able to work specifically on Sundays.
