About the role
Metro Engineering Solutions, LLC (“MES”) is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Field Utility Specialist confers with office staff—utility planners, consultants, and engineers—to understand project scope and requirements while physically inspecting gas, electric, and other data utility systems and associated materials and components.
Responsibilities
- Physically inspect existing poles, lines, and right-of-ways to assess readiness for new attachments.
- Locate and document required information through IKE and Katapult fielding software.
- Apply and analyze standards, authorities, plans, and specifications provided by designers and engineers.
- Know and comply with owner, MES, and MIOSHA site safety rules and regulations at all times.
- Confer with utility planners, consultants, and engineers to gain an understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Accurately measure, document, record, evaluate, and assess existing utility structures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primarily work outdoors; must be able to work in extreme heat and cold.
- Regularly required to walk for long distances.
- Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 20 pounds.
- Access and inspect utility infrastructure and cables in standard outdoor work environments.
Qualifications
- High School diploma and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of applicable experience working with construction, engineering, or facilities maintenance.
- Satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check and a valid driver’s license.
- OSHA confined space training certification preferred.
- Ability to understand basic principles of public and private utilities.
- Ability to learn and understand civil, structural, electrical, and communication systems and structures.
- Compliance and knowledge of OSHA and site safety rules.
