Job Purpose

This position is responsible for developing and delivering technical, compliance and safety training to increase the capabilities, effectiveness and adaptability of the Distribution and Transmission Operations organizations through the development of individuals and work groups. This includes the researching of regulatory and technical procedures and processes and conducting needs analysis to determine specific training requirements. Consults with management in the identification of technical skill deficiencies and provides relevant training remedies. Provides consultative support to management and safety committees with the goal of creating and maintaining an accident free workplace. Serves as a subject matter expert and consultant on OSHA, KOSHA, PSC, DOT, PHMSA, and NESC regulatory matters throughout the company.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, delivers and coordinates specialized technical training, qualification and required safety/compliance and technical training programs for both the Retail and Electric lines of business that meet business objectives, organizational values, operating principles, cultural change imperatives and required regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Serves as a technical consultant supplying expertise on technical procedures, compliance issues and safety practices to all levels of management, employees in the field and company contractors.
  • Aids line management with implementation of regular compliance plans and programs.
  • Conducts public liaisons and training for emergency agencies throughout the LG&E and KU service territory and develops and delivers safety programs for schools, civic and governmental organizations and commercial customers.
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of lines of business strategic plans and operations.
  • Partners with lines of business and conducts training needs analysis to identify and diagnose technical skill deficiencies to determine and develop specialized and required technical, compliance and safety training.
  • Implements training evaluation procedures; monitors and evaluates effectiveness of training programs and administers written examinations and skill performance testing.
  • Continually strives to maximize training efficiencies through innovative training methods and application of new technologies for leading edge and cost effective training.
  • Investigates serious injuries and near misses and counsels with employees involved in incidents.
  • Investigate and take appropriate actions concerning employee requests, complaints and concerns involving unsafe conditions/practices.
  • Maintain a positive rapport with various state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in engineering, education, or a technical field or an alternate combination of education and technical experience on a year-for-year basis. Requires overhead and underground knowledge of the electric distribution systems. Ability to read and comprehend technical journals and regulations and the ability to interpret information for an audience of broad knowledge and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the operating line of business and the company’s operation and safety procedures. Ability to develop technical training manuals.
  • Intermediate: Associate's degree in engineering, education, or a technical field and 3+ years related technical experience or an alternate combination of education and technical experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Senior: Associate's degree in engineering, education, or a technical field and 5+ years related technical experience or an alternate combination of education and technical experience on a year-for-year basis.
