As a Field Technician, you will manage all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks, diagnose errors or technical problems, and determine proper solutions. You will also provide service and customer support during field visits and dispatches.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose all types of equipment to ensure proper working condition on the job site or in the shop.
  • Perform routine equipment clean-up and upkeep, as well as safety reviews and pre-delivery inspections.
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, recondition, and adjust heavy equipment as required and complete all related paperwork.
  • Participate in all training programs directed by the Manager.
  • Bring to the attention of the Service Manager any shop tools, equipment, or vehicles that are not in serviceable condition or unsafe to use.
  • Maintain tools in good working order per MSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Complete basic computer tasks including work orders, parts lookup, and email communication.
  • Communicate with coworkers and customers to ensure top-quality equipment and customer satisfaction.
  • Tie workflow to schedule and manage all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports.
  • Operate vehicle safely and use field automation systems.
  • Follow all company field procedures and protocols.
  • Cooperate with the technical team and share information across the organization.
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations or briefings.
  • Build positive customer relationships.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and willingness to train and assist other team members with difficult or extended repairs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment.
  • Proven field service experience.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts.
  • Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable.

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily conducted in construction sites, equipment yards, and transportation routes.
  • Regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Physically demanding environment with uneven terrain, dust, mud, and loud noise levels.
  • May involve shop-based tasks and fieldwork including remote site travel.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols required at all times.
  • PPE such as steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection must be worn.
  • Must be comfortable operating around large equipment, confined spaces, or elevated positions.
  • Lifting heavy components and materials is often required.
  • Flexibility is essential as job site conditions and priorities can change rapidly.

Travel Required

  • Required to travel to various locations for training classes/seminars.
  • Drive to multiple vendors to acquire parts for assigned repairs.
  • Position may require several hours of driving daily to job sites.

Physical Demands

  • Requires a high level of physical stamina and mobility.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of tools, chains, tarps, and equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
  • Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and foot-based work on uneven terrain.
  • Climbing in/out of trucks, onto trailers, or onto equipment is required.
  • Must maintain balance while working on ladders, steps, or elevated surfaces.
  • Fine motor skills and dexterity required for tie-downs, controls, and documentation.
  • Must safely operate commercial vehicles and remain alert in hazardous conditions.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, and positioning of heavy materials.
