Overview

The Field Technician III position at Electric Power Systems (EPS) involves inspecting, testing, and maintaining high, medium, and low electrical power equipment. This role requires the technician to work with various types of electrical equipment, including SF6 & vacuum circuit breakers, pad mount transformers/GSU transformers, grounding, instrument transformers, and switchgear both manual and motor operated. Technicians are expected to lead safety briefings, perform tests, troubleshoot issues, and prepare detailed reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety briefings on job sites, identifying, eliminating, or mitigating hazards.
  • Perform high, medium, and low voltage testing of electrical power equipment as a crew leader.
  • Utilize Human Performance Error Elimination concepts and tools.
  • Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimal equipment functioning.
  • Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean equipment and components.
  • Lead in the safety culture and be responsible for other team members.
  • Able to install, test, and maintain electrical apparatus.
  • Understand the theory behind and reason for testing with the ability to analyze results.
  • Develop and write reports.

Qualifications

  • Required: Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position. A satisfactory criminal background check is also required.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with specific test equipment and knowledge of certain equipment types are beneficial.
  • Education and Experience: A bachelor’s or associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology, or relevant military experience is preferred. Five years of relevant industry experience are required, and NETA I, I, I certification programs are preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 70 lbs.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is between $45.00 – $60.00 per hour. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
