Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive field investigations to locate and assess subsurface utilities, utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), electromagnetic equipment, duct rudders, vacuum excavation trucks, and other advanced technologies.
- Perform utility designating and locating tasks in compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret utility data and integrate findings into project plans and designs.
- Prepare accurate field sketches, maps, and reports detailing the locations, depths, and types of identified utilities.
- Maintain and operate field equipment, ensuring proper calibration and performance.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices during fieldwork, taking necessary precautions to prevent accidents and injuries, and current policies regarding PPE.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, team members, and at times, clients, to provide updates on field progress findings.
- Aid in coordinating with utility agencies, municipalities, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary information for projects.
- Implement traffic control devices per approved plans.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of SUE experience.
- Strong knowledge of SUE principles, utility types, and geophysical methods.
- Proficiency in operating ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic equipment, vacuum excavation trucks, and other relevant subsurface utility detection tools.
- Familiarity with utility markings, APWA color codes, and industry standards (e.g., ASCE/UESA/CI 38-22).
- Basic understanding of construction plans, maps, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make accurate judgements in complex field environments.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- An attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and reliable field data and reports.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Overtime, weekend work, and travel may be needed to meet project deadlines.
- Surveying knowledge is a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD software and GIS applications is beneficial.
- Certification in utility locating or SUE methods (e.g., NULCA, UESI) is a plus.
