Field Technician - Construction Materials Testing

About the role

Intertek’s Building & Construction division is seeking an entry-level CMT Field Technician to support active construction sites in Charlotte, North Carolina. This hands-on, outdoor role involves testing materials such as concrete and soil while working alongside project teams. The position offers paid training, certifications, and a clear career path into Senior Technician, Project Management, or Engineering support roles.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on soil, concrete, and other construction materials
• Observe site activities and document results
• Work with construction plans, specifications, and field data
• Communicate with project teams and clients
• Follow safety procedures and maintain accurate reports

Requirements

• Two or more years of construction materials testing experience
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening)
• Solid interpersonal skills
• Basic math, calculator, and computer skills
• Ability to read and understand work plans
• Willingness to work off-shift and overtime as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make sound discriminations
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to climb occasionally

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Industry-relevant certifications (ACI, ICC, DOT)

Pay

Competitive hourly pay: $20–$28 per hour based on experience. Overtime available; typical total earnings $55K–$75K+.
