Field Technician, Carlsbad Midstream

About the role

The Field Technician is responsible for operational, mechanical, and instrument/electrical functions, such as inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations. This work includes supervising/directing field crews, maintaining pipelines in compliance with contracts, regulations, and safety considerations, coordinating with on-site contractors, and ensuring cost-effective and safe operations. This position may involve environmental or safety activities.

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine inspection of equipment and facilities (equipment health, security, AVO- Audio, Visual, Olfactory), operation of liquid handling systems, and operation of dehydration systems.
• Conducts pipeline pigging, hydrate management, etc.
• Responsible for startup, shutdown, and operating gas compression equipment.
• Performs and provides technical support for installations, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and rotating equipment.
• Performs planned maintenance checks and calibration and submits appropriate reports in a timely manner.
• Reads and understands P&IDs.
• Maintains pipeline right-of-way (ROW) such as markers, signs, and vegetation, and addresses exposures.
• Maintains records in accordance with pipeline regulatory requirements.
• Performs maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as block valves, control valves, air compressors, manual valve actuators, etc.
• Performs maintenance and repair of fixed equipment such as filters (all types), strainers, dehydration systems, etc.
• Conducts routine inspection of instrumentation, such as transmitters, switches, fire eyes, hazardous gas detection, level detection, etc.
• Operates PLC, HMI equipment, software, pipeline valves, and actuators.
• Maintains and repairs motor control equipment.

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 5 or more years of oil and gas operations experience.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Willing and able to, with or without reasonable accommodations:
  • Lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exert a pulling force of 130 pounds.
  • Regularly stoop, squat, kneel, and crouch for durations up to 30 minutes.
  • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work a Monday-Friday schedule with an on-call schedule.
  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines.
  • Work inside boosters and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Work in a loud environment.
  • Periodically pull/push doors open to move around the gas plant.
  • Occasionally climb A-frame ladders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a technical school program.
• Work experience in pipeline maintenance or operation and natural gas compression.
• Ability to read manufacturer specifications or blueprints to assemble or disassemble complex systems.
• Experience repairing and installing instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Pay

This position has a base salary range of $70,200 – $114,400. At Phillips 66, we are committed to pay transparency and competitive, equitable compensation. Each role is assigned a salary grade with a defined pay range, benchmarked against industry peers. Where a candidate offer falls within the posted range depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
