Field Technician

About the role

This position is for a telecommunications, structured cabling, and technology Field Service Technician. The job involves completing various cable runs, hardware moves, adds, changes, and “smart hands” installations for Granite customers, primarily within a 50-mile service area radius. The technician will also lead subcontracted crews on larger projects in the area. A company vehicle is provided. The technician will report directly to a remote supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with the NI team members and departments that schedule each service call
• Complete basic structured cabling repairs and new installations according to industry standard practices
• Perform Smart Hands installations and maintenance with various technology platforms and changing SOW’s
• Provide all required job and project deliverables within 24 hours or as otherwise specified in an SOW
• Keep company vehicle clean and serviced properly
• Keep all materials & tools stocked; accountability maintained through scheduled inventory counts

Requirements

• 5-10 years structured cabling experience
• Ability to tone and test copper wiring / analog dial tone
• Ability to terminate and test Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A cabling
• Ability to terminate and test Coax cabling
• Ability to patch and roll fiber
• Laptop skills (Excel, Putty/Hyper Terminal for remote sessions with engineers / NOC)
• Basic networking (Modem GUIs, Command Prompts, initiate remote sessions)
• Light travel
• Clean driving record

• Wireless Knowledge (Ability to utilize Ekahau software)
