About the role

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position as a Field Technician. You will be part of a collaborative team working to meet organizational objectives and live the mission and values of Bluebird Fiber.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, monitor, analyze, and resolve network problems in a timely manner with minimal oversight.
  • Coordinate and perform new customer installations for wholesale, enterprise, and colocation customers, including structured wiring, NID installation, and the addition of pluggable cards and jumpers at Bluebird Fiber locations.
  • Provide proper documentation of Bluebird Fiber’s network (Site Audits and Inventory Databases).
  • Provide installation, test, and acceptance for nodes and colocation sites into Bluebird Fiber’s network.
  • Support emergency restoration for aerial and/or buried fiber optic cable in Bluebird Fiber’s network.
  • Provide emergency restoration support for Bluebird Fiber’s network equipment.
  • Maintain Bluebird Fiber colocation facilities and report any observations of damage or violation.
  • Provide 24x7 network coverage, including trouble tickets and alarm monitoring at a Tier I level.
  • Adhere to the rotational on-call schedule to monitor, support, and dispatch as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year in telecommunications or equivalent technical training.
  • College or Technical degree or equivalent, preferred.
  • Experience with private line broadband installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with DS3/DS1 installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with SONET/DWDM installation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with IP/MPLS fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with test equipment (OTDR, OSA, DS1/3, and Ethernet).

Skills and abilities

  • Willingness to work day, evening, night shifts, overtime, call-ins, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Valid state driver license with a clean driving record.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in a demanding work environment.
  • Telecommunications equipment installation experience, preferred (Cisco or Alcatel Lucent).
  • IP Certifications, preferred.
  • VOIP switching and maintenance experience, preferred.
  • Fiber optics splicing and maintenance experience, preferred.
  • SS7/STP support experience, preferred.
