About Applied Carbon

We develop and scale groundbreaking technologies that regenerate soils and sequester atmospheric carbon by the gigaton for the betterment of people and planet. We're a Series A climate‑tech company with mobile pyrolysis systems that convert agricultural and forestry waste into biochar for carbon sequestration. Our systems use high‑temperature thermal processing to transform biomass into stable biochar, producing carbon credits for customers like Microsoft, certified by Puro.earth. In 2026 we’ll be deploying our systems across partner sites in North America.

Role Overview

The Field Technician is the “eyes and the brain” of our pioneering mobile pyrolysis systems, which convert agricultural residue into biochar. Running our proprietary equipment requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, plus the ability to monitor and adjust process parameters in real‑time. The role involves hands‑on work in an outdoor environment, systematic thinking about process relationships, and a willingness to learn new technologies. Our machinery runs 24/7; techs rotate between day and night shifts. This position requires up to 50 % travel, with off‑site assignments typically lasting 1‑2 months, and availability to work on public holidays and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor critical parameters such as temperature, pressure, motor speeds, and feed rates.
  • Make real‑time adjustments to feed rates and other inputs to maintain optimal operating conditions.
  • Recognize process deviations and respond quickly to prevent equipment damage or quality issues.
  • Understand the relationship between different process variables and how changes affect quality and yield.
  • Analyze operational data to optimize system performance.
  • Provide routine and escalated updates using our work‑management system.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on systems.
  • Accurately document maintenance, repairs, and operational logs.
  • Handle mechanical, electrical, and fluid‑power challenges.
  • Collect soil, biomass, and biochar samples per protocols and run internal lab tests for quality control.
  • Maintain operational logs and incident reports.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment and collaborate for continuous improvement and safety.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.

Work Style

  • Hands‑on problem solver who enjoys physical, technical work.
  • Able to stay focused and alert during long shifts.
  • Detail‑oriented for maintaining accurate logs and following sampling protocols.
  • Capable of making quick, sound decisions under pressure.
  • Self‑motivated and driven—looks for where they can pitch in.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation and communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player focused on continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for agriculture, environmental sustainability, and innovative technologies.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment (agricultural equipment preferred).
  • Experience operating machinery via HMI/GUI.

Working Conditions

This role regularly works outdoors and around heavy equipment, industrial machinery, agricultural‑residue handling systems, and biomass‑processing operations. The position involves routine exposure to heat, cold, sun, rain, dust, dirt, noise, vibration, equipment exhaust, moving machinery, vehicle traffic, uneven ground, and airborne particulates. Agricultural and biomass materials may produce dust, mold, allergens, or other naturally occurring biological contaminants. The employee must maintain situational awareness, follow all established safety procedures, and use appropriate PPE (safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, high‑visibility garments, hard hats, and respiratory protection when required). Equipment may only be operated by authorized, trained personnel, and all lockout/tagout, machine‑guarding, traffic‑control, hazard‑communication, and emergency‑response procedures must be followed.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work on‑site at our Houston headquarters and willing to travel up to 50 % of the time.
  • Flexibility to work holidays and weekends as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and operational data.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Quick learner who can adapt to new proprietary technology.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to remain calm in high‑pressure situations.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a customer‑focused mindset.
  • Eagerness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift and transport heavy equipment (at least 50 lb).
  • Experience operating heavy machinery, including skid steers and other agricultural equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Benefits

  • Premium pay for night shifts.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee covered in full).
  • 401(k) matching contributions.

Pay

$24‑$35 per hour, dependent on experience.

Schedule

  • Rotating day and night shifts (24/7 operation).
  • Up to 50 % travel, with off‑site assignments lasting 1‑2 months.
  • Work on public holidays and weekends as needed.
