FIELD SUPERVISOR I- SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE
About the role
Performs difficult technical and skilled trades work supervising the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal water and sewer lines and related areas; does related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Inspects water and sewer lines/taps, maintenance, construction, repair and installation and gives technical advice and assistance to crew chiefs
- Covers the use of available equipment, materials and manpower to obtain maximum effectiveness and economy
- Supervises the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal water and sewer lines and related areas
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs to specialized electronic control system which requires the use and interpretation of results from specialized electrical test equipment
- Covers and provides Safety & ISO training; Assists in training within the EMS program, policy, procedures, and regulations
- Directs all activities of the division in the absence of the Assistant Division Manager
- Receives requests for emergency and unscheduled work and coordinates completion of tasks; Keeps records and makes detailed reports, investigates accidents; Maintains employee records and performs yearly performance evaluations
- Responds to complaints from public
- Interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations
- Serves on the Utilities Maintenance emergency on-call rotation
Requirements
Graduation from high school or equivalent and moderate experience installing, maintaining, and repairing municipal water and sewer lines including the operation of excavating equipment and considerable supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
OSHA Competent Person Trenching/Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification within 12 months of hire. Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications within 12 months of hire NIMS IS-700, IS-100, IS-200, and IS-300 training certificates within 12 months of hire. NC Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operators Certification and Grade B Distribution System Operators Certification within 18 months of hire. Obtain a NC Class A Commercial driver's license with Restriction 8 within three months of hire.
Skills
General knowledge of the principles and practices of construction, repairs, and/or maintenance of municipal water and sewer lines and related areas. General knowledge of OSHA Standards that apply to areas of work responsibility. Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled or semi-skilled workers on a large scale over a wide area; ability to establish effective working relationships with others; general knowledge of computer operations sufficient to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data.
