Position Summary

The Field Supervisor – Carpentry is responsible for conducting facility condition assessments, identifying and documenting building system components, evaluating building conditions, and supporting construction and maintenance planning efforts across District sites. This position requires extensive knowledge of building construction methods, building systems, and field survey practices. The Field Supervisor works collaboratively with construction professionals, campus personnel, and survey teams while providing leadership and guidance to staff as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and collect building component data on systems installed at District facilities.
  • Utilize various technology platforms and devices to collect, document, and enter field data, including tablets, laptops, smartphones, and related equipment.
  • Apply construction knowledge and experience to identify building systems and components concealed behind walls, ceilings, floors, and other building finishes.
  • Assess the overall condition and remaining service life (RSL) of building system components based on field observations, construction expertise, and established District guidelines.
  • Follow direction and guidance from FCA Unit leadership regarding the evaluation and assignment of Remaining Service Life (RSL) values specific to District standards.
  • Collaborate with other trade surveyors and team members to gather quantities, measurements, boilerplate information, and other required facility data.
  • Conduct and support special surveys, facility assessments, and ad hoc building inspections as assigned.
  • Supervise the work of staff, survey participants, and field personnel when required.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to team members regarding carpentry systems, building construction, and field assessment procedures.
  • Cookordinate and communicate effectively with construction management teams, campus administrators, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare accurate field documentation, reports, and supporting records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • Substitution:
  • - Candidates without a bachelor's degree must possess a minimum of ten (10) years of qualifying experience.
  • - Up to four (4) years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • - Six (6) or more years of full-time paid professional experience working with on-site construction management teams and coordinating with campus administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • - Experience in commercial, institutional, educational, or public-sector construction projects is preferred.
  • - Demonstrated experience evaluating building systems, construction components, and facility conditions.
  • - Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred.
