Field Superintendent - Sheet Metal

About the role

This position oversees the operations, strategic planning, and personnel management of General Forepersons and Forepersons within the sheet metal trade of the assigned area. It involves leading and managing field activities, ensuring standards and productivity, and providing guidance to direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all sheet metal field activities to ensure standards and productivity are met in an effort to achieve company goals.
  • Operate as a resource manager for direct reports.
  • Select and assign Forepersons based on project needs.
  • Develop and execute project execution strategies and schedules.
  • Prepare and present weekly project progress, health, and safety reports.
  • Resolve issues, challenges, and obstacles that arise during project execution.
  • Implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols and Safety Department’s protocols.
  • Adhere to and enforce corporate policies and procedures.
  • Plan for successful project installations through job walks and participation in project kick-offs, mid-jobs, and wraps.
  • Review project documents to determine proper staffing requirements.
  • Assign field supervision and labor to projects.
  • Maintain and evaluate personnel to ensure performance meets high standards.
  • Evaluate and advise on means and methods of continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and meet project goals.
  • Monitor and advise on quality control measures to ensure high-quality output.
  • Engage with labor relations representatives to foster positive relationships and resolve disputes.
  • Mentor General Forepersons and Forepersons to develop them into elite leaders.
  • Aid the Director in departmental budgets, financial planning, and fleet management as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong industry knowledge and experience in the sheet metal trade and general fabrication.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including honesty, integrity, patience, empathy, and a strong work ethic.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels of the business.
  • Experience and deep understanding of related trades (sheet metal, controls, air balance).
  • Experience leading projects for at least 12 years.
  • Union membership in good standing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, Adobe, ProCore, Bluebeam, Box, and other relevant software.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of local quality, occupational safety, and health regulations for construction job sites.
  • Preferred but not required: experience in remote training software and technologies, degree or certification in construction management, engineering, or architecture, experience in remote training software and technologies used within best-in-class organizations, proficiency in Spanish, and experience with various business and corporate software technologies.

Pay

The position is for signatory employees and wages will be aligned with the current Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Schedule

Travel 75-90% of the time to and from the primary office to job sites and regional branch offices.
