Position OverviewThe BESS Field Service Engineer (FSE) is responsible for performing field service activities on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated equipment from installation/commissioning through warranty and long‑term O&M support. The FSE executes preventive and corrective maintenance, supports troubleshooting and upgrades, and works closely with Senior Field Service Engineers, site teams, subcontractors, and customers to ensure safe, high‑quality service delivery. This role is a hands‑on technical position with growth opportunities toward Senior Field Service Engineer, Site Lead, or Service Operations roles. Primary ResponsibilitiesField Service Execution (Preventive & Corrective Maintenance)Own availability and service‑level commitments (SLAs) for assigned sites during service activities, ensuring safe execution, timely restoration, accurate communication, and proper documentation to support contractual performance.Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on BESS and ancillary equipment in accordance with approved procedures and safety standards.Support troubleshooting, repairs, component replacement, and system restoration activities under guidance from Senior FSEs or Service Engineering when required.Support software and firmware upgrades and routine system checks.Accurately document work performed, observations, and findings in service tools/work orders.Support service readiness activities for sites transitioning into long‑term O&M (tools, spares, access, and onboarding support as assigned). Remote Technical Support & Customer InteractionProvide remote technical support and basic troubleshooting assistance using virtual tools (phone, Teams, WebEx, or similar).Support customer and contractor education on basic equipment operation, response expectations, and routine maintenance tasks.Participate in after‑hours on‑call support on a rotation basis. Service Tools, Documentation & Continuous Improvement Utilize CMMS and digital service platforms (e.g., SoftWrench, SAP, Salesforce) to complete work orders, track issues, and document service activities.Contribute field observations and lessons learned to support improvements in procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training material.Support root‑cause investigations by collecting data, logs, and observations as directed.Support the product return and technical support process as needed.Service Partner & Team CollaborationWork collaboratively with Senior FSEs, Service Engineering, site teams, and authorized service providers to execute service activities safely and efficiently.Support subcontractor activities on site under direction of Senior FSEs or Site Leads.Safety & ComplianceExecute all work in compliance with company safety policies and applicable standards.Follow LOTO procedures, job hazard analysis (JHA/JSA), and energized work controls as required.Promptly report hazards, near misses, and safety concerns, and maintain a strong personal commitment to safe work practices.Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA) during field execution and subcontractor activities.Actively identify and report near‑misses, hazards, and improvement opportunities. Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Fundamental knowledge of electrical testing and measurement equipment.Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings.Experience supporting hardware and software troubleshooting activities.Ability to communicate clearly with customers and internal teams.Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.Exposure to energy storage systems, power conversion systems, or related electrical equipment.Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Desired :Experience with BESS, PCS, EMS, or renewable energy systems.Familiarity with communications protocols (CAN, Modbus, TCP/IP, DNP3), including alarm/event analysis and firmware interactions.Experience using CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP, Maximo, ServiceNow, Salesforce).Knowledge of power generation, transmission, or distribution systems.Structured problem‑solving or Lean experience. Education/Experience/Work EnvironmentB.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.2-5 years of relevant experience in electrical, power, renewable energy EPC, or O&M environments.Willingness to travel up to 50%.Flexibility with working off-hours and being part of the off-hours, on-call rotation.Ability to lift and carry material is required.Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing /able to drive and fly to remote sites as needed.
