Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and major maintenance on natural gas compression equipment (engines, compressors, coolers, and related systems).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to restore equipment performance.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, compressor rebuilds, and component replacements.
  • Support start-ups, shutdowns, commissioning, and optimization activities.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees.
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in engines, rotating equipment, or heavy machinery.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
    • Preferred:
      • Prefer at least 3 - 5 years of experience in gas compression with preference to CAT, Ariel and/or Cummins certifications and experience.
      • Technical certification or vocational training in diesel, natural gas engines, or industrial maintenance.
      • Prior experience in oil & gas field operations or compression services.
      • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

    Work Environment

    • Typically, an FST’s work day consists of driving a USA Compression service vehicle to customer locations to perform repair and maintenance activities.
    • The role rotates 14 days on/off away from home to our workplace.
    • This position is 100% on-site and field-based; no remote or hybrid options.
    • Some exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
    • Extensive travel required during rotation; lodging provided per company policy.
    • Exposure to outdoor weather, rotating equipment, and industrial environments.

    About the Role

    • A Field Service Technician (Rotator) is responsible for maintenance and service of USA Compression equipment reporting to the Area Service Manager (ASM).
    • With minimal supervision and significant autonomy, the typical areas of responsibility include safely performing scheduled maintenance, maintaining and building customer relationships, and providing first line support for equipment troubleshooting.
