Position Summary

The Field Service Technician provides customer-site installation, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for Cattron products and systems. This position primarily supports rail automation solutions, including locomotive remote control systems (RCL), wireless control technology, and related electronic systems. This role serves as the technical representative for Cattron customers by diagnosing equipment issues, minimizing downtime, completing system installations, and ensuring products operate safely and effectively in industrial and rail environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and service Cattron products and systems at customer locations, including locomotive and industrial rail applications.
  • Provide technical support to customers regarding operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of system equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, RF communication, and system failures using established troubleshooting procedures.
  • Perform system commissioning, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs to support customer operations.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic information to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Serve as the customer contact for technical and service-related questions while providing professional support in the field.
  • Determine the most effective repair solutions to minimize customer downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Train customers, operators, and maintenance personnel on proper use, operation, and care of Cattron systems.
  • Travel to customer rail yards, industrial facilities, and field locations to provide onsite support.
  • Prepare service reports and documentation to assist with product improvement, failure trend analysis, and serviceability concerns.
  • Provide in-house technical support, product testing, quality support, and assistance with new product builds when not traveling.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Two to four years of related technical service experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Locomotive, railroad, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, automation, military technical, or field service experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring schematics, technical documentation, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Experience with RF technology, wireless systems, control systems, or diagnostic tools preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, testing equipment, and service tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment in a customer environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document technical information clearly.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a field-based environment.
  • Able and willing to travel frequently to customer locations as business needs require.
