About the role

TDS Telecom is seeking a Field Service Technician-Network Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of telecommunications equipment and networks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telecommunications, including experience with fiber optics, copper cables, and various switching technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain telephone equipment and network infrastructure for new and existing customers.
  • Configure and maintain PBX, Key Systems, Centrex Systems, and other business communication systems.
  • Locate and repair customer cable issues using test equipment and construction equipment.
  • Maintain and repair central office equipment, including switches and auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support and respond to trouble dispatches.
  • Support project management for system installations and provide high-level record system maintenance.
  • Proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
  • Work independently and handle multiple tasks effectively.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of technical telecommunications experience OR current/prior military service with an honorable discharge.
  • 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, and repair experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • The ability to follow TDS attendance guidelines.
  • To be available for on-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel.
  • To successfully complete a safety course and maintain DOT requirements.
  • Understanding of telecommunication products and services, including inside wiring, cable, internet, bonding, grounding, data, computers, fiber optics, and video.
  • Practical knowledge of computer applications such as databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, Microsoft Office, and CD-ROMs.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Successfully complete background checks administered by the customer.
  • Pass the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
  • Meet DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
  • Understand telecommunication products and services, including inside wiring, cable, internet, bonding, grounding, data, computers, fiber optics, and video.
  • Have practical knowledge of computer applications such as databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, Microsoft Office, and CD-ROMs.
  • Be able to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Have strong customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communication skills.
