About the Opportunity
The Field Service Technician III plays a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing the performance of complex mechanical and electrical finishing equipment. This position ensures customers can operate their systems at peak productivity by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading highly specialized machinery, as well as providing technical training and direct support. The role directly contributes to long-term customer success, team development, and the continuous improvement of product offerings based on real-world field data.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and upgrade complex mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical finishing equipment on-site
- Program, calibrate, and commission Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to optimize system airflow and performance
- Read, interpret, and apply technical engineering blueprints, complex electrical schematics, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to guide physical installations and control wiring
- Utilize advanced digital diagnostic tools, multimeters, and testing equipment to rapidly isolate and resolve electro-mechanical issues
- Conduct comprehensive technical classroom and hands-on operational training for customer maintenance teams
- Mentor, shadow, and coach junior field service technicians to build overall technical expertise across the department
- Implement authorized field modifications and engineering changes in electrical controls and mechanical assemblies
- Collaborate actively with internal engineering teams to translate field performance feedback into tangible product enhancements
Requirements
- Associate's degree in a technical field (e.g., Industrial Electronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automation) paired with six (6) to eight (8) years of progressive industrial equipment troubleshooting experience; or an equivalent combination of military technical training and field experience
- Advanced operational knowledge of electrical controls, industrial automation architectures, PLCs, and heavy mechanical systems
- Proven technical mastery in diagnostics and root-cause analysis to resolve complex, interlocking electro-mechanical failures
- Hands-on experience safely modifying, rewiring, or rebuilding electrical panels and mechanical assemblies under field conditions
- Effective customer-facing communication and service skills with a professional approach to technical delivery
- Strong administrative capability to document service reports, parts orders, and diagnostic logs accurately and promptly
- Demonstrated experience training, coaching, or leading junior field personnel
- Certified proficiency or experience in the safe operation of heavy material handling equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, and articulated boom lifts
- Literacy with Microsoft Office Suite and standard cloud-based business logging software
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal safety training or active certifications in Fall Protection (OSHA standards) and Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E guidelines)
- Practical experience and awareness working safely in confined spaces or around industrial chemical application systems
Pay Range and Compensation Package
The target baseline hourly compensation framework is $34.32 to $43.20 USD per hour. Final hourly placement within this tier is calibrated dynamically based on the candidate's industrial PLC programming depth, finishing system installation background, and localized regional market benchmarks. The compensation package includes an annual individual performance incentive bonus aligned with broader company performance metrics.
