Field Service Technician I - Apparatus Boot Camp Winter 2027

About the role

New hires selected for our Apparatus Boot Camp program will have the opportunity for accelerated professional development through a one-year training program. This includes an intensive six-week in-person Boot Camp held each winter in Louisville, Kentucky, featuring classroom and on-the-job training, mentorship from subject matter experts, and leadership within our organization. The program covers a variety of electrical apparatus, hands-on experience, and industry connections. The 2027 Apparatus Boot Camp begins in January 2027, with potential earlier start dates aligning with graduation. All offers are for permanent positions with a regional reporting location upon successful completion. This role requires extensive travel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing on low and medium voltage breakers, including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests.
  • Complete mechanical work and repairs on breakers, including tear down, refurbishment, and parts replacement.
  • Install and modify switchgear control wiring.
  • Utilize and accurately read meters.
  • Read schematics and wiring drawings.
  • Troubleshoot circuit breaker controls.
  • Test power and current transformers, including Power Factor and TTR.
  • Accurately and consistently document using Power DB.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience, or Associate or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending in all weather extremes.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. without assistance.
  • Perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and time management skills.
  • Ability to read company manuals, reports, and procedures; speak with poise and confidence using correct English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Valid Driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC).
  • Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Similar experience and training from the military (e.g., Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee).
