About the role

This is a hands-on Field Service Technician role supporting Rivian vehicle repairs. The position requires a collaborative, team-oriented individual who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. While primarily based in one location, travel to various sites—including the production plant—may be necessary to provide vehicle support as business needs demand. This is a level-agnostic posting; specific level and compensation will be determined by current business needs and the candidate’s demonstrated expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or assist with vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections at service centers or in the field (e.g., customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations).
  • Identify and explain Rivian’s product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories to customers and team members.
  • Use available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repair quality.
  • Manage parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide feedback to senior technicians or leadership.
  • Support service campaigns and containment initiatives.
  • Document all work and technical notes accurately for internal and external use.
  • Work collaboratively with a team spirit and maintain high-quality output with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with technical skills and complete required training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; no driving-related suspensions or revocations within the past 3–5 years.
  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer preferred.
  • Available for a 40-hour work week, which may include weekends, holidays, and shifts during early morning, evening, or overnight hours based on business needs.
  • Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, and frequent use of hands for grasping tools and data entry.
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, or schematics.

Experience

  • Hands-on work experience in an automotive shop is highly preferred.
  • Recent automotive graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair is a plus.
  • Experience in start-up environments is preferred.
  • Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems is preferred.

Spectrum of Technical Skills

  • Low Voltage & Electrical Systems: Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory; ability to safely use a DVOM for circuit measurements and read electrical schematics. Advanced candidates can diagnose complex faults, work with CAN/LIN networks, and perform wiring repairs to manufacturer standards.
  • High Voltage Systems: Core requirement includes understanding high-voltage risks, safely powering down systems, and using appropriate PPE. Skilled technicians can diagnose high-voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues using manufacturer diagnostic processes.
  • Chassis, Brakes & Suspension: Proficiency in fundamental chassis service (e.g., mounting and balancing tires, vehicle alignments, brake system component replacement). Ability to diagnose mechanical suspension components and advanced vehicle dynamic issues (e.g., traction control, ABS, power steering). Top-tier candidates resolve complex drivability concerns such as NVH.
  • Thermal Systems: Ability to service vehicle thermal systems, including performing coolant drain-and-fill and handling refrigerant with a 609 certification. Comprehensive understanding of A/C systems and components; proficiency with A/C machines and diagnosing thermal system concerns (e.g., coolant systems, A/C performance, HVAC).
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): Working knowledge of ADAS features and operation. Responsibilities include replacing system components and performing necessary calibrations. Advanced understanding includes functionality and limitations of the complete ADAS system and roles of its sensors.
  • Body & Glass: Responsibilities include assisting with glass removal and installation, safely replacing windshields and glued body fixtures, and adjusting body panels to specified tolerances. Ability to diagnose and repair issues such as wind noise and water leaks.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $22.50 to $30.00 per hour for South Carolina-based applicants. Position within the range will be based on factors including competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.
