About the role
The Field Service Technician performs field and in-house service work for customers, including the installation and set-up of new machines. This role ensures customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality work in a timely manner, covering installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, computer, and industrial systems in production settings.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electro-mechanical equipment.
- Travel to customer locations throughout North America to perform installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Prepare and test equipment before shipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Load and unload equipment at company and customer facilities.
- Train customers and operators on proper use of equipment.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Provide phone service support on an “on-call” basis.
- Document all installation and service work, including expense reports, service reports, and time sheets.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid US passport or passport card preferred.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, including PLC and VFD controls.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to handle stress and perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without direct supervision.
- Adaptability and flexibility to embrace new skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical standards and practices, typically acquired through a technical certificate or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- Experience with material and resource planning systems, spreadsheets, word processing, customer management databases, and data management software preferred.
- Experience in electro-mechanical principles, systems, and repair preferred.
- Experience building and maintaining strong customer service relationships preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights, from light office supplies to heavy machinery components.
- Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing, writing, operating machinery, and assembling products.
- Sufficient visual acuity to read documents, operate equipment, and recognize details at close and distant ranges.
- Ability to hear and understand verbal communication, as well as detect warning signals or equipment malfunctions.
- Endurance to withstand prolonged physical activity or work shifts, particularly in manufacturing roles involving repetitive tasks.
- Ability to move quickly and with coordination to navigate tight spaces and react to changing work conditions.
- Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects, particularly for material handling or maintenance tasks.
- Capability to climb ladders, stairs, or scaffolding as required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects.
- Good hand-eye coordination and motor skills for precision tasks like operating machinery or using hand tools.
- Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes.
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes.
Travel Requirements
This is a field-based role requiring frequent overnight travel, up to 75% of the time.
Driver Qualification
- Ability to drive a company-owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company is preferred.
- Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company-owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.
Becoming a qualified driver includes:
- Agreeing to company driving policies.
- Possessing and maintaining a valid driver’s license and being at least 21 years of age.
- Maintaining an acceptable driving record, verified through baseline motor vehicle record checks and ongoing monitoring.
- When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, providing a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance showing policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident, or $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident for less than 5 hours/200 miles per year, or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is verified initially and annually thereafter.
