Job Overview
The Field Service Technician – OWS & Grit Specialist is a CDL driver responsible for providing exceptional environmental services, primarily focused on the cleaning of oil/water separators (OWS), grit traps, and grease traps for commercial and industrial clients. This role involves operating vacuum trucks, handling non-hazardous waste, and working in demanding environments that require physical strength, technical skill, and strict compliance with safety and DOT regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate vacuum equipment to clean oil/water separators, grit traps, and grease interceptors according to customer specifications and company procedures.
- Pull, position, and manage heavy vacuum hoses (50+ lbs) over long distances and variable terrain.
- Complete sludge judge readings and perform detailed inspections for every service, noting condition, volume, and abnormalities.
- Perform line jetting services to ensure proper flow and system maintenance for both grease and OWS systems.
- Ensure material collected is non-hazardous and complies with company waste handling protocols.
- Document all work accurately in the field via tablet-based routing and inspection systems.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections using electronic DVIR systems.
- Respond to emergency service requests and participate in the on-call rotation as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A
- Automatic drivers accepted – no transmission requirement
- One year of commercial driving experience preferred (military equivalent acceptable)
- Vacuum truck experience preferred (industrial or septic/grease)
- Willingness and ability to work in messy, smelly, and physically challenging environments
- Able to lift 55+ lbs repeatedly and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must pass DOT physical and be medically qualified to operate a commercial vehicle
- Registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse prior to hire
