About the Role

The Field Engineering Services Division provides professional field services and technical support for the full range of Powersmiths and Socomec products. These services are delivered to a wide range of customers in power distribution, critical power markets, green and brown field buildings, and data centers. Field Service Technicians are responsible for performing professional and technical services at client sites, including transformer surveys, baseline measurements, system startup, commissioning, integrated system testing, preventive and planned maintenance, and emergency repairs on Powersmiths and Socomec products such as Low-Voltage Transformers, Power Distribution Units (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and other devices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellence in safety, ensuring all work is performed safely and professionally.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and manage complex schedules, including travel and site access to secure environments (e.g., military, government, banking, or data centers).
  • Perform on-site activities accurately and deliver reports on time.
  • Work closely with client engineers, contractors, and other contacts to meet project requirements and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Review and interpret work instructions, manuals, electrical drawings, and one-line diagrams to execute work safely and accurately.
  • Coordinate with technical support and management teams for timely issue escalation.
  • Maintain a learning mindset to continuously improve knowledge and abilities.

Field Service Technician I Duties

  • Meet general duties under the supervision of senior technicians/mentors.
  • Learn and apply safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop an understanding of site transformer surveys, measurements, and energy savings calculations.
  • Learn to identify and analyze constraints and onsite transformer configurations.
  • Prepare and submit site reports on time.
  • Complete classroom and field training for startup, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of PDUs and small/medium UPS systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred, or equivalent field experience or military experience.
  • Strong understanding of, or willingness to learn, health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA 1910, NFPA 70E).
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, electrical code, transformers, power electronics, PDU, UPS, ESS, and STS.
  • Ability to deliver high-level customer service while working independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan travel and execute complex scheduling of client site visits.
  • Strong knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the energy conservation market.
  • Ability to collect and synthesize information from multiple sources to execute diverse projects professionally.
  • Effective communication with clients, contractors, and others at varying technical levels.
  • Adherence to standards and compliance with customer-specific requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Able to obtain clearance for access to schools and government installations; background checks and fingerprinting may be required.
  • Must be able to purchase airline tickets, rent vehicles, and reserve lodging at own expense with full reimbursement.

Working Conditions

  • Field work in electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, data centers, and home/office environments.
  • Extensive nationwide travel; occasional international travel (Canada, Europe, Asia, etc.).
  • Home-based office.

Employment Requirements

  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Ongoing or periodic drug testing and background checks may be required for this safety-sensitive role.
  • Commitment to health and safety best practices and regulations.
  • Adherence to company policies.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and basic TCP/IP networking.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport for international travel.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Physical Demands

  • Mobility: Ability to move in various environments, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods.
  • Stationary work: Ability to remain seated or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Manual dexterity: Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers for wiring, equipment assembly, and tool handling.
  • Lifting and carrying: Ability to lift or move items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual and auditory requirements: Ability to read technical documents, diagrams, and screens, and communicate effectively.
  • Travel: Regular travel to customer sites, involving driving or other transportation.

Pay

$70,000–$80,000 USD (salaried non-exempt).
