FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER
About the role
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) serves as the face to our customer and the frontline liaison between customer, engineering, and manufacturing. The FSE’s primary responsibility is the timely installation and maintenance of our capital equipment tool. Additional duties include customer and FSE training, providing design feedback to engineering, contributing continuous improvement ideas, and staying current with the latest technology and system changes to ensure the best possible service experience.
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and calibrate precision manufacturing equipment at customer facilities
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and accuracy
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and CNC-related issues
- Troubleshoot complex system problems and implement corrective actions efficiently
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers
- Train customers on proper equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance practices
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- Maintain detailed service reports, calibration records, and documentation
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve recurring issues
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
- Travel frequently to customer locations (regional, national, or international as required)
- Final acceptance and release of products and assemblies according to test and acceptance criteria
- Process, document, invoice, and control work orders, customer orders, and service calls according to guidelines

Requirements
- Successfully complete a criminal background check
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Flexibility to work extended hours as business needs dictate
Travel Requirements: 50% at customer site (Minneapolis, MN area) with 50% at our Center of Excellence (Zimmerman, MN) for training or instruction, with potential for international travel in the future.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of precision motion and/or automation equipment experience in a Field Service Technician/Engineer role
- Experience working with lasers, optical assemblies, servo systems, and robots is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet service commitments
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines, metrology equipment, stages, or high-tolerance machining systems
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
- PLC programming or diagnostics experience
- Knowledge of ISO quality standards (training/documentation material creation)
Education
Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
