About the role

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be the go-to person who provides vital assistance to customers when they need it most. You will be responsible for ensuring our customers are ready to go as soon as their brand-new machine arrives. Regular travel by car and air is required for this position and a company car is provided. You will be home almost all weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-installation review: before shipping a new machine, review installation recommendations and processes with the customer.
  • Machine Installation: oversee the assembly of machines at the customer’s facility.
  • Inspection and demonstration: inspect, adjust, and start up newly installed machines. Make recommendations as needed to ensure proper specification compliance. Demonstrate safe setup, operation, and maintenance protocols.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Provide warranty and non-warranty service including problem identification, maintenance, repair services, and training as required. Recommend parts, accessories, and labor to maintain equipment safety and to achieve operational efficiency.
  • Customer Service Management: Regularly visit assigned customers to observe machine operation, identify service needs, and suggest appropriate accessories, parts, or services to meet customer requirements.
  • Distributor support: Develop and nurture relationships with local Hurco Machine Tool Distributors, providing them with technical support and collaborating with them to deliver exceptional service to customers.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Follow established procedures to complete service reports, inspection reports, time reports, and expense reports accurately and within specified time frames.
  • Technical Support: Provide remote technical support to distributors, customers, and other field service engineers via phone and email from our Indianapolis office.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of technical school or equivalent work experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical systems maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial automation equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Process oriented, able to complete necessary travel and expense reports.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
