About the role

A Field Service Engineer (FSE) I ensures users of Rapiscan | AS&E equipment are satisfied with its performance. This entry-level position requires basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, independent thinking, and the ability to operate with minimal instruction. Expect up to 100% travel (international and domestic), workdays exceeding 8 hours, and occasional weekend work. Potential for long-term overseas deployments may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service and maintenance for Rapiscan systems as requested by Field Service Managers.
  • Follow Field Service contract requirements for response time, information reporting, and customer management.
  • Communicate with customers before and during system corrective and preventive visits to align work with Rapiscan’s business objectives.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service Coordinators to ensure on-time delivery of parts and materials.
  • Maintain and carry a Field Service Tool Set.
  • Complete timely reporting of labor, expenses, and materials to support service contract requirements and company policy.
  • Complete and ensure proper distribution and storage of Work Order forms, Site Acceptance Test documentation, radiation survey documentation, and other required documents per company policy and customer contractual requirements.
  • Follow company safety program requirements and report all accidents and safety incidents.
  • Provide system status updates via CRM reporting and mobile devices to management, including customer concerns and other agreed-upon status items.
  • Carry a company-provided cell phone and laptop and be on call.
  • Maintain positive control of tools, meters, and test equipment, and manage timely returns for calibration.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to company safety and product workmanship procedures.
  • Lead, coordinate with customers, and manage all work at system locations, including emergency response.

  • Report quality problems or defects to management for corrective action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • A.S. in Electronic Technology or Engineering with Mechanical Engineering experience, or a technical degree with demonstrable mechanical ability and knowledge. Previous experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Basic knowledge/skills in Analog, Digital, and Mechanical systems.
  • 0–3 years of experience.
  • Networking hardware and software literacy.
  • Database management and programming, software/firmware protocols.
  • Ability to manage both technical and administrative functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (multi-lingual is a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and ERP systems (D365 preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and make logical decisions within position parameters.
  • Able to work on-call rotation and off-hours as needed.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds daily.
  • Able to work outside in inclement weather.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to federal government contracts.

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally up to 100%.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and arrange travel accommodations within Rapiscan’s guidelines.
  • Flexibility to handle sudden changes (e.g., customer schedules, flight delays, on-site weather delays).
  • Maintain and organize expense receipts while in the field and submit expenses timely.
  • Ability to obtain site passes, clearances, and visas as required.
  • Maintain a valid passport and credit card to support business travel.
  • Understand and comply with company travel policy.
  • Ability to pass company and government background checks and maintain good standing.

This position does not require a security clearance, but future opportunities may arise for cleared personnel. Selected candidates who obtain and maintain a U.S. Government-issued security clearance may be considered for such roles.

Background checks include education verification, credit check, and driving record review.

Pay

Pay may range from $25.00 to $31.00 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on job level, geographic location, hire date, experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and education, in conjunction with market and business considerations.
