About the role

The Field Sales Representative owns and delivers sales for their overall territory by developing relationships with Store Managers and other retail personnel to achieve directed short- and long-term performance objectives. This role focuses on delivering the overall value of retail (VOR), including sales, displays, new items, and core distribution. Activities center on wall-to-wall sales coverage of Nestlé items, systemic problem-solving related to out-of-stocks, new item speed to shelf, share of shelf, price compliance, and promotion selling. This position covers a Fairfield, CA territory, and the candidate must live within 50 miles of Fairfield, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Sell incremental volume for displays and obtain maximum support for promoted products.
  • Sell promotional surveys for displays and additional products based on observed opportunities.
  • Collaborate with targeted store-level/district-level retail operations personnel to create and execute business reviews that drive volume.
  • Lead expenditure of financial resources in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Ensure compliance with pricing guidelines at the retail level.
  • Report competitive price changes and promotional support, and resolve competitive pricing issues.
  • Identify and correct voids, and ensure new items are available.
  • Merchandise products to obtain schematic compliance, pack out shelves, rotate products, handle unsellable product, and resolve systemic problems related to out-of-stocks and voids.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with department/store-level personnel within the territory to maximize sales results.
  • Communicate market insights from the retail level to management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of retail sales, merchandising, or retail management experience with CPG products preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication (oral and written), selling, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook) and other POS systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial, inventory, retail conditions, and/or other data to utilize appropriate selling techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including frequent overnight travel up to 40% of the time.

Working Conditions

  • Travel Requirements: May require frequent overnight travel up to 40% of the time, as well as additional business travel to meet customer and operational needs.
  • Driving: Regular long-distance driving is expected to visit client sites, attend meetings, and support field activities.
  • Location Requirement: Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the largest cluster of stores in the assigned territory to ensure consistency and execution readiness.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift and transport promotional materials or product samples weighing up to 55 lbs.
    • Pushing/Pulling/Bending: May be required to set up displays or move carts during customer visits or events.
    • Standing/Walking: Extended periods of standing and walking are common during store visits, trade shows, and fieldwork.

Pay

The approximate pay range for this position is $57K–$66K base salary plus an annual bonus. Final compensation may vary based on factors including background, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
