Field Safety Engineer

About the role

The Field Safety Engineer will assist with the Safety Management Systems of Robins & Morton. This position contributes to a safe and healthy work environment, guiding construction projects through safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Stop any observed imminent danger event/activity immediately without consultation.
• Review trade partner safety submittals to ensure compliance with regulation and scope of work.
• Absorb and implement additional duties agreed upon by VP of Safety Operations and project team, ensuring they do not interfere with primary responsibilities.
• Participate in preconstruction safety meetings to analyze and prepare for risk issues.
• Assist in claims management process.
• Attend and facilitate trade partner safe-start meetings prior to mobilization on site.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the project safety management system.
• Lead and direct safety initiatives, including conducting weekly site-wide safety meetings.
• Address and document non-compliance issues with trade partners.
• Ensure implementation of project fair accountability procedures.
• Assess and document all project incidents (WC/GL/Near Hits), ensuring proper records are completed and submitted.
• Implement corrective actions and communicate them effectively.
• Provide safety onboarding for all project employees.
• Participate in performance standards evaluations and demonstrate self-awareness and development needs.
• Conduct daily assessments for at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, public protection, ICRA/ILSM, and additional project risks.
• Communicate, implement, and document corrective actions.

Requirements

• Preferably, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in safety management or equivalent comparable certification in safety and health (e.g., CHST, ASP, CSP).
• Recent three years of work history with at least one year dedicated solely to building construction safety, preferable with a commercial GC/CM.
• Practical knowledge, working experience, and documented continuing education in areas such as fall protection, scaffolding, excavations, confined spaces, crane/equipment operations, electrical, incident analysis, human performance principles, OSHA 510 certification, and other safety/health-related training.
• (An OSHA 10/30 Construction Outreach or OSHA 510 certification will not be acceptable proof for this training requirement. For each area of education identified above, the candidate shall possess a certificate of completion from an accredited training agency dated within four years.)
• Specialized training for Emergency First Aid, CPR, and AED, current to within two years.
• Good written and oral communications; preferably bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract documents, safety standards, construction drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ongoing professional development and certifications, including OSHA 510 certification.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction safety, preferably with a commercial General Contractor/Construction Manager (GC/CM).
• Knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices in construction.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
