Position Summary

The Field Safety Engineer supports daily safety operations on heavy civil construction projects throughout Arizona. This role partners with project management, superintendents, and field crews to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across active construction sites.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine field safety inspections and jobsite audits.
  • Assist with implementing and enforcing company safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify hazards and work with field leadership to develop corrective actions.
  • Lead or assist with incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Facilitate daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, company standards, and client safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, and training records.
  • Aid in new hire safety orientation and ongoing employee training.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fall protection, trench safety, confined space procedures, and excavation safety practices.
  • Support project teams during client safety audits and inspections.
  • Track corrective actions through completion and follow up with field leadership.
  • Promote a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent construction safety experience.
  • 2+ years of construction safety experience, preferably in heavy civil construction.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification required (OSHA 500 preferred).
  • Strong understanding of excavation, trenching, underground utility, and earthwork operations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with field personnel while maintaining accountability.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel between project sites throughout Arizona.

Preferred Requirements

  • CHST, STSC, ASP, CSP, or other recognized safety certification.
  • Heavy civil, underground utility, roadway, or earthwork construction experience.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Equipment Experience: Excavators, Dozers, Motor Graders, Loaders, Scrapers, Compactors, Trench Boxes and Shoring Systems, Utility Installation Equipment, GPS Machine Control Systems.
