About the Role

We are seeking a Field Research Assistant for a 2-month contract position at our Windfall, IN multi-crop research station. This role involves a variety of routine tasks, both indoors and outdoors, supporting seasonal research programs. Tasks will vary based on the stage of the annual research program and may include field operations, sample processing, and general facility maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform field research operations related to planting, thinning, weeding, pollinations, and sample harvest.
• Conduct sample processing operations, including preparation of supplies, sorting, scanning, weighing, preparation for shipping, and seed packaging.
• Support general facility operations, such as clean-up, organization of samples and supplies, and other routine tasks.
• Follow written and oral instructions, with general guidance on routine tasks and detailed instructions for new tasks.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, mud, rain, etc.), except during storms.
• Perform day-to-day tasks such as running a carousel, filling seed, sorting clams in field order, plant sampling, hand harvesting, photometry, inventory, and computer work (e.g., scanning barcodes).
• Complete additional tasks as requested by the supervising Field Technician.

Requirements

• Ability to work outside in heat and various weather conditions.
• Capability to walk on uneven field ground.
• Reliability to show up daily and follow directions.
• Basic computer and iPad skills.
• Safety-conscious and able to work well with others.
• Exposure to common allergens (insects, plants, pollen) is expected.
• Preparedness to work in fast-paced, changing environments.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be supplied, except for steel-toed boots, which may be required later and partially reimbursed if requested by the employer.
