About the role

We're seeking a highly motivated and skilled Field Repair Technician to join our growing team as our mobile problem-solver. You'll travel to client sites in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois to diagnose and repair a wide range of items, from furniture and antiques to fixtures and equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair: Assess damage and determine the best course of action for repairs.
  • Hands-on repairs: Perform structural repairs, cosmetic touch-ups, mechanical adjustments, and component replacements using your diverse skillset.
  • Problem-solving: Think on your feet and find creative solutions to unexpected challenges.
  • Customer interaction: Provide excellent customer service, explaining repair processes and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Travel: This is a field-based position requiring travel to various client locations in the region.

Requirements

  • A "can-do" attitude: Positive mindset and willingness to learn.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Solid understanding of how things work.
  • Versatile skillset: Experience in various repair disciplines such as carpentry, furniture repair, painting, minor electrical work, plumbing, or related skills.
  • Tinkerer's spirit: Natural curiosity and passion for taking things apart and putting them back together.
  • Attention to detail: Precision and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical clients.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Qualifications

Bonus points for the following experience and skills:

  • Furniture repair and wood finishing/wood finish repair: Knowledge of wood types, finishes, and restoration techniques.
  • Formal training or certifications in repair disciplines.
  • Upholstery: Skills in fabric repair, reupholstering, and working with various upholstery materials.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electro-mechanical devices: Familiarity with electrical systems, motors, sensors, and other electro-mechanical components.
