The Field Reliability Engineering team’s mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers on the team are responsible for one or more vehicle systems for Model S/3/X/Y; Semi, CyberTruck or Cybercab (specific to EVs and High Voltage or traditional Automotive components).

What You'll Do

  • Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues.
    • Prioritize based on Severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure modes
  • Perform detailed failure analysis, identifying root-cause of problems –
    • Perform board-level, component, or system level debugging to isolate faults for physical FA
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical, electrical engineering and PCBA manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production / design / supplier / Firmware
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions
  • Share Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs)
  • Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology)

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math, or equivalent experience
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis in consumer electronics or automotive
  • Ability/experience to navigate existing software/firmware tools and logs to identify and label failure modes encountered
  • For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside
  • Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Proficient in PCBA level troubleshooting and debugging
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
  • Programming Languages & Tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus

Expected Compensation

$91,600 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
