Field Operations Technician
About the role
As the Technology Operations Technician at Wonder, you will serve as the dedicated technology owner for one of our DISH facilities — large-scale production and distribution facilities that are the operational backbone of Wonder’s mealtime platform. DISH locations are technology-dense environments equipped with computer systems, wired and wireless networks, network-connected production equipment, handheld devices, scanners, printers, and more. In this role, you will ensure every piece of technology in your facility runs reliably and efficiently, partnering closely with culinary and operations teams to minimize downtime and keep the food flowing. Any available capacity above and beyond your facility responsibilities will be leveraged as additional support for our IT Service Desk — giving you variety and the opportunity to grow your breadth of IT skills across the broader Wonder organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the single point of contact for all in-facility technology issues, repairs, and maintenance at the primary site and assist other locations.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer systems and peripherals (scanners, printers, handheld devices).
- Assist ETG team with troubleshooting and maintenance of servers, networking equipment (switches, wireless access points, firewalls), etc.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues for network-connected production equipment and production management systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections of all technology assets to minimize unplanned downtime in a production environment.
- Manage mobile and handheld device fleet through MDM solutions; provision, deploy, maintain, and retire devices as needed.
- Monitor local network health and coordinate with the greater IT team to resolve connectivity, performance, and capacity issues.
- Manage a thorough and up-to-date asset inventory for all technology at the facility.
- Coordinate repairs, warranty claims, and service visits with vendors and internal staff on behalf of the facility.
- Ensure technology installations and configurations comply with Wonder IT standards, security policies, and change management processes.
- Document incidents with causes and resolutions and standard operating procedures in the internal knowledge base.
- Service and maintain the temperature monitoring system components consisting of the sensors and alerting profiles.
- Be a point of contact for escalation of similar issues from the MSP supporting the restaurants.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in an IT support, field technician, or systems administration role.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of hardware — PCs, laptops, tablets, handheld scanners, printers, and network-connected devices.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi (802.11 standards), and switching/routing concepts.
- Experience managing and troubleshooting Windows, Apple, Android, and/or Chrome OS endpoints in a managed environment (Intune, Omnissa, or similar MDM/UEM platform).
- Familiarity with ITSM ticketing platforms (ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, or equivalent) and adherence to ITIL best practices.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced production or operations environment.
- Strong customer service orientation — clear, patient, and professional communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Comfort working in a warehouse environment — this role involves regular floor presence around active food production and warehouse distribution.
- Track record of sound judgment, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with IoT device management or network-connected industrial/commercial equipment.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Cisco Meraki, Aruba, or similar enterprise network platforms.
- Experience in a food service, logistics, or manufacturing technology environment.
- Prior Service Desk or help desk experience in a corporate setting.
Work style
- You take ownership. You treat your DISH facility like it’s yours, proactively identifying potential issues before they impact operations rather than waiting for something to break.
- You communicate with clarity. You translate technical problems into plain language for operations, culinary, and management teams, and know how to set expectations around timelines and outcomes.
- You thrive under pressure. Production facilities never stop — and neither do you. You balance competing priorities calmly and make sound decisions even when the stakes are high.
- You’re a collaborator. You work hand-in-hand with facility leadership, central IT teams, and third-party vendors, earning trust through follow-through and consistent results.
- You document everything. You understand that good documentation is the backbone of reliable systems and you take pride in maintaining accurate records, runbooks, and asset inventories.
- You adapt quickly. Technology evolves, Wonder evolves, and so do you — embracing change, learning new tools, and bringing flexibility and enthusiasm to whatever comes next.
