Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates, monitors, and maintains field equipment which may include tanks, heater treaters, LACT units, steam generators, co-generation units, compressors, pumps, pumping units, flowlines, and related systems.
- Counsults with supervisors and provides recommendations for resolving equipment issues, production variances, and operational concerns.
- Maintains accurate production, maintenance, and compliance records using company systems and reporting tools.
- Supports implementation of production optimization initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Trains and mentors field operators in the operation, inspection, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance of wells, production equipment, and associated systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable field operations.
- Acts as site operations leader (SOL) for contractors, coordinating activities and ensuring safe execution of work and compliance with company standards.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state (including California regulatory agencies such as CalGEM and CARB), and company environmental, health, and safety requirements.
Education and Experience
Required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible oil and gas production operations experience, including experience with equipment operation, troubleshooting, maintenance activities, safety procedures, and coordination of field activities.
Desired:
- Prior experience providing training and mentoring.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of oil & gas production operations, facilities, equipment, and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance, along with applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, California environmental, spill prevention, and air quality regulations.
- Ability to troubleshoot, operate, and maintain complex equipment; perform basic math; understand process flow diagrams; and identify hazards, participate in safety planning, and promote safe work practices.
- Proficiency with computer-based systems, tablets, electronic reporting platforms, and production/maintenance tracking software and the ability to accurately complete electronic and written operational, inspection, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to properly wear all required PPE (safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, supplied-air respirator, etc.) and adhere to all safety requirements.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and transfer knowledge to less experienced field personnel while building and maintaining positive working relationships with management, field staff, community stakeholders, and contractors.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize in a dynamic environment, and maintain flexibility for shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs in a 24/7 operation.
- Valid California driver’s license with a driving record deemed acceptable by the company’s auto insurance carrier is required due to regular travel to field and operational sites.
Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is performed extensively in outdoor environments, exposed to a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (both heat and cold), wetness, and humidity.
- The essential functions of this position include adjusting/moving in all directions objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and 100 pounds with assistance rarely; sitting, standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity for reading computer screens or preparing data, inspecting objects, and operating vehicles; operating a motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment; working near moving mechanical parts, tight spaces, and on high and precarious surfaces; and/or communicating with others to exchange information.
- Exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, and loud noises should be expected. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks is required. Incumbents must adhere to all safety protocols, especially those concerning heat illness prevention (access to water and shade).
