Field Mechanic
About the Role
If you enjoy solving problems, applying mechanical ability, thinking creatively, and learning new things in a fast-paced and rewarding environment, this Field Service Technician position is for you. With more than 500 technicians across the US and Canada, our Service team maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs battery, engine-powered, and robotic Tennant products at customer facilities. You will diagnose equipment issues and determine repairs needed to restore equipment functionality while providing quality communication and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and resolve complex problems by troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, and combustion engine problems on customer-owned Tennant products and similar competitor models.
- Own your territory by planning your daily schedule, contacting customers to schedule service activities, and ensuring open communication regarding service expectations, timeline estimates, billing, and future service needs.
- Create and maintain records of all service activities and business reporting documentation.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of all Tennant Company property, including the company vehicle, tools, parts, inventory, and equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols and utilize proper PPE.
- Collaborate with internal partners such as sales, customer service, technical assistance, field service support, and other technicians to support your success.
- Lift items weighing between 2 and 90 pounds, with most items weighing 2–20 pounds (assistance should be provided for items over 60 pounds).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and meet Tennant Company driving policy requirements.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in:
- Troubleshooting and repairing combustion engines (LP, Diesel, or Gas).
- Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems.
- Using hand and power shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
- Using a personal computer, MS Office Suite, and email.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational schooling in automotive, diesel, or electrical fields.
- Previous experience and knowledge working on mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts, heavy equipment).
- Previous experience working directly with customers.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, standing, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, or squatting.
- Daily driving of a van to and from customer sites, including frequent driving time of 3+ hours.
Pay
$55,440 - $83,160 per year, with a performance-based incentives structure.
Schedule
Monday – Friday.
