About This Role

The Field Mechanic at Service Electric Company travels throughout their assigned region and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment/machinery. This role supports field operations by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. Work is performed primarily at job sites.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles, including pickup trucks, medium/heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerial lift systems, booms, outriggers, and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) services to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • Travel with storm crews, as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Coincoperate with operations and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize disruption.
  • Manage parts inventory and communicate parts needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical or trade school certification preferred. 5+ years of experience working on commercial vehicles or heavy equipment. Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment (bucket trucks) strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, braking systems, and diagnostics. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical documents. Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail. Ability to identify and solve issues. Good interpersonal skills. Self-motivated. Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently with good time management. Ability to conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of SEC, working effectively in a diverse work environment.

  • TRAVEL REQUIRED: Heavy Working Conditions: This position requires: Regular presence in a shop settings and active construction field environments, including outdoor job sites subject to variable weather and terrain conditions. Ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain and access construction work zones in compliance with all applicable safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements. The ability to drive to and from work sites and could include long periods of driving. Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights (for equipment inspection)
