Field Mechanic

This position performs maintenance and repairs at various job sites and remote locations in the Central MN area, including Duluth, Mora, and Virginia. Responsible for the full range of maintenance and repair for heavy-duty trucks, large construction equipment, and tractor trailers, ensuring all vehicles and equipment remain in good running condition.

Responsibilities

• Pre-plan and identify methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
• Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others, and bringing it to their attention.
• Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company and support the goal of achieving zero injuries.
• Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, PTOs, brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and interfaces, cranes, digger derricks, aerial devices, and other components.
• Perform DOT inspections, monthly and annual inspections, and dielectric testing on equipment.
• Complete repairs noted on all inspections and facilitate necessary documentation and paperwork.
• Install and troubleshoot telematics in fleet equipment.
• Perform tune-ups, brake jobs, functional adjustments to aerial equipment, digger derricks, cranes, preventative maintenance, metal fabrication, and welding.
• Respond to road service calls and routinely scheduled visits to job sites for repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
• Assist Fleet Manager with maintaining appropriate service and repair records.
• Assist Fleet Manager with researching and purchasing equipment parts and supplies.

Requirements

• Valid CDL driver’s license and medical card.
• High school education or GED is required.
• Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Truck/Heavy Equipment repair or five years of experience performing repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment.
• Minnesota DOT inspector certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Must supply a basic set of tools for work in the shop.
• Qualified to perform annual inspections.

• Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies for motorized vehicle repair.
• Ability to complete service and repair tasks from basic to complex, independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of body and frame construction.
• Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools, gas and electric welding equipment, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
• Skill in the use of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
• Skill and knowledge base to effectively service and repair machinery and implement new service and repair techniques.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
• Ability to read manuals and schematics.
• Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.
• Ability to communicate about repair work needed.
• Ability to determine work priorities and order parts and supplies.
• Acquire effective knowledge of service procedures for all fleet equipment.

Pay

$33.00/hr - $40.00/hr
