Field Maintenance Worker

Job Duties

• Performs assigned tasks involving the care and maintenance of public grounds and parks, including park facilities.
• Performs turf maintenance functions.
• Operates related equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, hand mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and sand pros.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
• Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
• Lifts and spreads fertilizer by hand.
• Seeds and irrigates areas.
• Digs up and replaces irrigation lines and PVC pipe.
• Performs construction and ball field duties such as shoveling and digging.
• Picks up and loads litter.
• Cleans and repairs park shelters, picnic tables, grills, sand areas, and playgrounds.
• Cleans restrooms using cleaning supplies.
• Operates noisy, self-propelled equipment.
• Works around the public in a safe and courteous manner.

Qualifications

• Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
• Extensive background checks required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience in installation and repair of sprinkler systems preferred or the ability to learn.
• Able to operate noisy equipment for extended periods of time.
• Able to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Able to tolerate weather extremes for extended periods of time.
• Able to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public.
• Able to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Able to learn to properly operate tools and equipment safely as listed below.
• Participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
