About the role
As a Field Maintenance/Repair Welder at Maguire, you will perform on-site welding and fabrication of elevated water towers. This role requires extensive travel, adaptability to different work environments, and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Responsibilities
- 100% tie-off when working on a water tower.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications.
- Assist in unloading equipment/rigging from the maintenance rig.
- Operate and understand all rigging procedures.
- Document and inspect rigging equipment daily.
- Assist in cleanup of jobsite daily and at the end of the project.
- Communicate with foreman on tasks to be done and game plan for the day.
- Repair and fabricate various items and equipment using SMAW (stick) and some flux-core welding.
- Monitor the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship, technical or welding degree preferred.
- 3 years of welding experience preferred or a combination of schooling and experience.
- Must be able to pass a company weld test (SMAW required).
- Ability to travel frequently (out months at a time and multi-state assignments).
- Minimum age of 21 for driving responsibilities.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong understanding of welding safety practices and procedures.
- Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
- Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
- Adhere to Maguire’s Personal Protective Equipment Policy and Safety Programs.
Work Environment
- Majority of the time is spent in the field and will work in unfavorable weather conditions; both heat and cold.
- Frequently required to sit, squat, talk, and hear.
- Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk at heights up to 200 feet.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.
